  • OVERVIEW: As fans of the insta-classic know, "The Stand" has gone through a few incarnations in the years since King first released it in 1978. While the story remained the same—two groups of survivors face off against one another in a mythical battle of good versus evil following a devastating pandemic—the 1990 "Complete and Uncut Edition" fleshed out the action significantly.

This version, according to THE STAND editor Bill Rosemann, has come to life in the Marvel Comics adaptation. "From the very first cough to the sinister showdown with the Walkin Dude himself, this is the official and authentic translation of Stephen Kings sprawling saga—taken from the "Complete & Uncut Edition"—only as Mighty Marvel can!"

Rosemann brings with him an impressive pool of talent to produce this top notch adaptation. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (SECRET INVASION: FANTASTIC FOUR, SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN) handles scripting duties while Mike Perkins (CAPTAIN AMERICA) draws, inks and provides variant covers. Colorist Laura Martin, letterer Chris Eliopolus and cover artist Lee Berjemo (DAREDEVIL) round out this creative juggernaut.

Of course, as with the Gunslingers series, the project would not be complete with out a stamp of approval from the author himself. Rosemann reassures fans, "each and every issue of THE STAND will be scrutinized, digested and blessed by the incredibly helpful and wise King Krew…and by King himself!"

  • ISSUE 1 - It begins here: the apocalyptic epic battle between good and evil based on the classic bestseller by master of horror Stephen King! On a secret army base in the Californian desert, something has gone horribly, terribly wrong. Something that will send Charlie Campion and his wife and daughter fleeing in the middle of the night. Unfortunately for the Campion family--and the rest of America--they are unaware that all three of them are carrying a deadly cargo: A virus that will spread from person to person like wildfire, triggering a massive wave of disease and death, prefacing humanity's last stand!

  • ISSUE 2 - Stephen King's horror epic continues in this issue as the unseen killer, the super-flu Captain Trips, spreads across the entire country, a tide of disease and death. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, in the Center for Disease Control, the US government has taken a keen interest in Stuart Redman, who seems to be the only person immune to the Captain Trips infection. They are determined to find out why--with or without Stu's cooperation. And what do the recurring nightmares Stu's been having--about a dark man with red eyes standing in a cornfield--mean? Plus: Frannie Goldsmith and her father! Larry Underwood in New York! And Nick Andros takes a wrong turn in Shoyo, Arkansas!

  • ISSUE 3 - As the superflu known as Captain Trips continues to spread across America, the lives of poor souls such as Larry Underwood and Frannie Goldsmith can't help, but be affected by it. And as the media begins to catch wind of rumors about chemical warfare and bubonic plague, the actions of the American government begin to devolve, local and global legal systems start to deteriorate, and two wild and crazy outlaws--Lloyd Henreid and Poke Freeman--decide to take advantage of the situation, wreaking a path of destruction through the American southwest! It's murder and mayhem, Stephen King-style, in the next chapter of the epic struggle between good and evil! Plus, a stunningly visceral regular cover and sketch variant cover from acclaimed artist Lee Bermejo and the third of five connecting variant covers from Perkins – this is a must for any King fan!

  • ISSUE 4 - The fourth installment of this apocolyptic tale sees the infamous flu virus now known as "Captain Trips" creep into the personal lives of both Frannie and Larry. Nick Andros carries on with his deputy duties in Shoyo and things seem alot more serious for Lloyd on the other side of the law........and enter a disturbingly familiar face.

The first volume of Marvel's adaptation of the Stephen King horror epic draws to its conclusion! For Larry Underwood, Nick Andros, and Frannie Goldsmith, the deadly superflu has immediate--and devastating--consequences, striking down people near and dear to their hearts. Meanwhile, outlaw Lloyd Henreid gets some grim news from his attorney and General Starkey is relieved of his duties--in the most definitive way possible. And somewhere far away, but getting closer, the Walkin' Dude is making his presence known...

  • ISSUE 5 - The violently contagious superflu Captain Trips has now encompassed the entire country in its deadly embrace and there's no turning back. America is rapidly becoming a country of the sick...the dead...the damned. Against that ever-darkening backdrop, Randall Flagg, the Walking Dude, the Dark Man, at long last saunters into this, the climactic chapter of the first volume of Marvel's acclaimed adaptation of Stephen King's horror classic. Abandon hope all ye who enter here...

In the conclusion of the opening book of the post apocalyptic tale we are invited to take a stroll down U.S 51 with none other than Randall Flagg, the dark man. On this stroll we learn about the dark mans past, his present and we are disturbed by the thought his future. Both Larry and Frannie have to cope with the death of a parent and Nick Andros is put in a similar situation as the government clamps down on those who dare to speak out about the infamous Captain Trips.
