IT was released by Viking Press in 1986 and Publisher’s Weekly listed it as the best-selling book in the United States for 1986. For a novel that came in at 1,138 pages that’s a lot of books to sell in one year. In 1990 IT became a two-part mini-series on ABC starring Tim Curry. In 2017 and 2019 IT Chapter One and Chapter Two were released in theaters and became the highest horror film franchise earning over 1.2 billion dollars world-wide for the two films combined. In October of 2025 HBO Max premieres an original story, IT: Welcome to Derry in a nine-episode series.

The 2026 Stephen King Calendar celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the novels release. Including facts and trivia on the origins of IT, the story, and delves into the media releases in TV and film, as well as other releases from around the world.
