IT was released by Viking Press in 1986. Publisher’s Weekly listed it as the best-selling book in the United States for 1986. For a novel that came in at 1,138 pages that is a lot of hardcovers to sell in one year. In 1990 IT became a two-part mini-series on ABC starring Tim Curry. In 2017 and 2019 IT Chapter One and Chapter Two were released in theaters and became the highest horror film franchise earning over 1.2 billion dollars world-wide, for the two films combined. In October of 2025 HBO Max premieres an original story, IT: Welcome to Derry in a nine-episode series.
